Applied Health Degrees

Applied health programs are designed for working professionals in the health industry seeking to complete a bachelor’s degree. Typical students can be nurses or laboratory/radiology technicians moving into supervisory roles or professionals in long-term care facilities needing additional coursework for state licensing eligibility.

Applied Health Degree Overview

Applied health programs provide students with a scientific foundation for future endeavors. The degree is designed for students who wish to go directly into physical therapy, physician assistant, or other graduate-level allied health programs. Core courses in biology, cell biology, chemistry, and physics provide a framework for emphases in physical therapy, physician assistant-ship, or business. These emphases allow students to tailor the curriculum to support their desired career track.

What to Expect with a Applied Health Degree

Students can choose applied health as an alternate degree to biology within applied sciences if they desire a career in health care. Students receive a similar background as a sports physiology degree, and in some programs students can gain hands-on anatomy experience. The physical therapy emphasis focuses on human anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, and research. Physician assistant students pursue advanced coursework in organic chemistry, biology, and calculus. The business emphasis explores pharmacology and biology, while covering the principles of accounting, management, and finance. Students prepare for jobs in pharmaceutical sales, hospital administration, and other science-related business careers.
